<h2>Why should you participate in the Democratic Party caucuses? </h2>The Democratic Party caucuses in Colorado are a grassroots nomination process that begins in early March and helps decide which Democratic candidates qualify for the June 20th, 2026 primary ballot. Unlike a state-run primary election, caucuses are organized by the Democratic Party — and while Colorado has abolished presidential caucuses in favor of primaries, the Democratic Party still uses precinct caucuses followed by county and state assemblies to determine ballot access for non-presidential statewide, congressional, and legislative races. Registered Democrats in each precinct meet between March 3–7, 2026 (check the Adams County Democratic Party website for details including locations, most caucuses in Adams County will be held on Saturday, March 7th). At their precinct caucus, participants elect delegates to the county assembly using a proportional system wherein allotted delegates decide who advances to the State Assembly on March 28 in Pueblo. At the state assembly, delegates cast votes to formally nominate and place candidates on the Democratic primary ballot based on party rules and support levels. The state assembly then finalizes nominations for the primary. Because caucuses involve in-person or virtual meetings and require active involvement, they tend to attract a smaller, more engaged subset of Democratic voters who help shape the party’s slate of candidates ahead of the broader primary and general elections

<h2>Why you should participate in the 2026 caucus:</h2>The Democratic Party caucuses are a grassroots nomination process that begins in early March and helps decide which Democratic candidates qualify for the June 30th primary ballot. Unlike a state-run primary election, caucuses are organized by the party — and while Colorado abolished presidential caucuses in favor of primaries — the Democratic Party still uses precinct caucuses followed by county and state assemblies to help determine ballot access for non-presidential statewide, congressional, and local races like ours.Registered Democrats in each precinct will meet Saturday, March 7th (at the locations listed below) to elect delegates to the county assembly held on Saturday, March 14th (to be held at Horizon High School). Here, they will express their preferences for races up and down the ballot.At caucus, delegates are chosen for the county assembly. If fewer than 700 delegates sign up to attend the assembly, all who are interested may attend. If more than 700 delegates sign up to attend, delegates are allocated proportionally according to population and in accordance with caucus attendees' candidate preferences. So, it's very important to show up to your precinct caucus and, if possible, volunteer to become a delegate to the county assembly. Those who are unable to make it to the precinct caucuses due to work and illness can reach out to the Adams County Democratic Party chair if they would still like to attend the county assembly. Please fill out the form below if you'd like to attend the assembly but can't make it to caucus or would just like more information on caucus.At the county assembly, delegates are elected to the state and congressional district assemblies. We also will take votes to formally nominate and place candidates on the Democratic primary ballot based on party rules and support levels. This multi-stage process is so important because it gives ordinary Democrats direct influence over which candidates appear on the June primary ballot, though candidates may also qualify by petition outside this route. If our campaign receives 30% of votes at the assembly, we automatically make the ballot. And if we receive over 70% of votes at assembly, my opponent has to turn in 1000 signatures to make the primary ballot.Participation in the caucus and assembly process requires registering as a Democrat by February 13th, 2026, as well as being a resident of the relevant precinct. Because caucuses involve in-person or virtual meetings and require active involvement, they tend to attract a smaller, more engaged subset of Democratic voters who help shape the party’s slate of candidates ahead of the broader primary and general elections. By our calculations, fewer than 2,000 of our 500,000 Adams County residents ever have participated in this process. I've lived in Adams County for most of my life and I care deeply about our community's future. I made friends from all over the world attending Flynn Elementary, right here in District 4. My parents bought their first home just a few blocks from where I live today. And I got my first job cleaning up trash at Water World in Federal Heights when I was fourteen.I know that Adams County has unique potential because I've lived it. And because Adams County always provided me with opportunities to meet my fullest potential, I feel an obligation to protect our community for future generations and provide them with the same opportunities I had. That's why I'm running for County Commissioner in District 4.

<h3>For most of my life, Adams County has been my home.</h3>Since my great-grandfather moved to Brighton almost 100 years ago, Adams County has been a land of opportunity and freedom for my family. In their memory, I’m committed to fighting for equal opportunities and freedoms for the other families who live here—whether they have been here since time immemorial or immigrated recently.Growing up in Adams County brought out the best in me. My parents led by example, prioritizing public service over serving themselves. My mom, who grew up in our community raised by a single mother, put herself through college and law school before working as a tax attorney for nonprofits. She later put her career on hold to care for me and my brother and volunteer her time for our school's PTA. My dad gave up a career in corporate law to serve our community for 25 years as a prosecutor and as the elected District Attorney of the 17th Judicial District from 2005-2013. They taught me to look for the good and the reasonable in everyone, to listen to and learn from people who are different from me, and to always speak up for those who don’t have the opportunity to speak up for themselves.<img src="https://run.imgix.net/563a36ef-5521-4ace-8672-5e03bd990be4/afdb4736-e86c-48d8-b1fb-f21cb218ed0a/afdb4736-e86c-48d8-b1fb-f21cb218ed0a.jpeg?ixlib=js-3.8.0&amp;bri=0&amp;con=0&amp;sat=0&amp;high=0&amp;shad=0&amp;usm=0&amp;rect=410%2C884%2C3307%2C2118&amp;w=1500" alt="Tyler at his Ph.D. hooding ceremony" caption="" align="left" alignwidth="40" tiltdirection="left" variant="framed">After graduating from local public schools and CU Boulder, I spent over a decade working as an educator in both secondary and higher education, earning a Ph.D. along the way. I often worked as many as three jobs as an adjunct professor to pay my bills during graduate school and look forward to bringing this perspective of hustling and living paycheck-to-paycheck to the Board of County Commissioners. My doctoral research focused on protecting kids from social media, using technology to bridge political divides, and advancing civil rights for LGBTQ+ communities. I look forward to using my experience and expertise in collecting and analyzing data to improve systems, save money, focus on the right problems, and hire the right people as a County Commissioner.I’ve carried the values I was raised with into my work as a teacher, researcher, and organizer. As an executive of the CU Student government, I managed a staff of 20 people, a budget of over $20 million, and negotiated the lowest tuition increase in a decade when I was just 21 years old. As a campaign consultant and activist, I helped progressives and Democrats win tough races, performed research and analysis for national labor unions like AFSCME, SEIU, the NEA, and the AFL-CIO, and fought to make the Democratic Party more inclusive for young people and marginalized communities. While teaching and getting my doctorate at USC, I worked in a research lab focused on healing the partisan divide, worked on one of the most successful unionization campaigns at a private university, and published award-winning research on new technologies. Throughout two decades of experience in research, communications, education, and public service, I’ve seen how people can work together to make lasting changes that benefit the whole community. And I've learned how to bring ordinary, hard-working people together to fight against entrenched, special interests at every level of government. Today, I live on the south side of my hometown, Westminster, with my boyfriend and our puppy. I work as a full-time faculty member at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, where I work with young people from our community to refine their professional skills and devise strategies for getting new business. The Adams County that I grew up in was a lot more rural community than the Adams County that exists today. While I welcome new development, I also want to ensure that we never forget where we came from. At a time when Trump's tariffs are causing chaos and the planet is warming due to carbon pollution, we owe it to our kids to protect and expand food production, shorten supply chains, and diversify farm ownership. Splendid Valley and similar projects present a unique opportunity for Adams County to become a hub of local and sustainable agriculture, as well as mixed-use development that combines the best of urban and rural living. As a County Commissioner, I will fight to protect this legacy and build on this innovation.

With uncertainty in supply chains and fading public interest, our Adams County agriculture needs a champion who will protect our rural communities. I look forward to supporting agriculture, expanding it wherever possible, and bringing young workers and aspiring homeowners into the food production system.

Supporting Agriculture

I know firsthand that housing affordability is a crisis in Colorado. As an educator and first-time homeowner, I have to pay over half of my monthly income toward my housing. While this inconveniences me, it makes me far more concerned to know that thousands of hard-working, single mothers and seniors living off of social security are expected to do the same every month in Adams County and often on even lower incomes. We owe it to our seniors, our essential workers, and our young families to find new and better housing solutions. And I believe we can do this while protecting homeowners’ hard-earned wealth if we prioritize the following goals: <ul><li>Diversify our housing stock so that our essential workers and young families can purchase starter homes and our retiring seniors can downsize affordably.</li><li>Protect existing homeowners' equity with cost-effective investments in transportation, infrastructure, small business development, and environmental restoration.</li><li>Push for more cross-regional planning and cooperation in housing development.</li><li>Ensure that local real estate investors can fairly compete with multinational corporations.</li><li>Provide assistance so that both our retiring seniors and young workers can make energy-efficient upgrades, replace costly (but necessary) appliances, and maintain healthy yards and lawns.</li><li>Protect and expand renters' rights.</li><li>Explore funding models for development that keep costs low for developers without forcing taxpayers to shoulder the burden.</li></ul>

Our seniors, young families, and workers deserve housing that they can afford. Our homeowners deserve responsible development that protects and increases the value of their homes. Working with all stakeholders, we must find housing solutions that work for everyone.

Housing Solutions

The cost of living in Colorado has skyrocketed. Food, medicine, housing, and vehicles have all become incredibly expensive at a time when wages are stagnant and benefits are being cut by the Trump administration. As an educator living paycheck to paycheck, I know what it's like to wonder how you're going to pay for a new boiler or a necessary car repair. Working people deserve an advocate in local government who will always put them before wealthy, special interests and big corporations, and speaks up loud and clear for the following agenda:<ul><li>Unequivocal support for labor unions and unionization efforts. I'm the only candidate in this race who has unionized their workforce. I've been the proud member of two labor unions and worked with many others. I will support any unionization effort in Adams County however I can. And I will always advocate for unionized labor - even mandating it when possible.</li><li>Promoting wage growth via whatever means are available, including an increase in the minimum wage.</li><li>A competitive wage and great benefits for all who protect and serve our community.</li><li>Supporting small business development, whether it be through planning and development, workforce programs, or even county-sponsored events and festivals.</li><li>Funding mental health and youth diversion programs that empower disadvantaged communities and individuals, protect our law enforcement, and save us millions of dollars in the long term.</li><li>Equal access for our immigrant-owned small businesses, including expanded services for additional languages.</li><li>Synergize infrastructure investment and economic development with the public school system, our workforce and apprenticeship programs, community colleges, and research institutions.</li><li>Revise planning and development guidelines to expand access to childcare, especially for our rural and immigrant communities.</li></ul>

Everyone, regardless of where they’re from or what they look like, deserves the opportunity to work hard and share in our community's success. Supporting small and local businesses is an essential aspect of this goal. But so is supporting our working poor and economically exploited.

An Economy for Everyone

Not only are the richer getting richer through pay-to-play politics; they are also robbing us of our natural resources and long-term health. This year has proven that climate change is already a daily challenge for our community. Invasive species and scorching weeks of summer heat threaten our entire way of life, whether you're a farmer or an outdoors enthusiast. Instead of living in fear, we need to lean into our potential to lead the world in clean energy production, ecosystem and agricultural renewal, and water conservation. We can protect the environment while growing our economy and we owe it to future generations to make this a priority.Here's what I would like to do:<ul><li>Continue to invest in renewable energy, vehicle electrification, and other technologies that will fight climate change, grow our economy, and provide thousands of good-paying, union jobs.</li><li>Prioritize water conservation and preservation, making sure that our residents and the land that sustains us are higher priorities than the needs of multinational corporations.</li><li>Aggressively monitor and manage invasive species in agricultural land and open spaces while promoting biodiversity and native species.</li><li>Fight for the public transportation options that Adams County has consistently voted for and paid for in taxes.</li><li>Incentivize development that reduces waste, integrates local ecosystems, and encourages pedestrian and recreational activity.</li><li>Utilize my background as a social scientist to make land-use and policy decisions grounded in peer-reviewed, consensus science rather than profit-seeking, politics, or public relations.</li></ul>

Smart, cost-effective investments in water preservation, invasive species management, and emissions mitigation will save our community millions and fulfill our promise to protect our land, air, and water for future generations.

Faith in our democratic system is at an all-time low. Our institutions and politicians are widely seen as inaccessible and unaccountable. And that's why it's more important than ever for those seeking elected office to demonstrate independence and integrity. This isn't always easy in <a href="https://rooseveltinstitute.org/publications/15-years-after-citizens-united-fact-sheet/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">a world after Citizens United</a>, in which the uber-rich and multinational corporations spend enormous sums trying to defeat candidates who won't do their bidding. Even here in Adams County, organizations funded by Big Tech and Big Oil have intervened in local races just like mine. But when politicians push the policy preferences of corporations and billionaires over those of our local workers and residents, it further alienates ordinary people from the political process. This is why the Democratic Party and its representatives must represent something different from politics as usual this year.I've been vocal about rejecting the endorsement or support of dark money groups who funnel Republican billionaire donors' cash into Democratic primaries. I'm the only candidate in this race to sign the <a href="https://nofossilfuelmoney.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">#NoFossilFuelMoney</a> pledge to reject large contributions from PACs, lobbyists, and executives directly associated with the fossil fuel industry. I'm also signing the Colorado Democratic Party's Clean Campaign Pledge, promising to run a fact-focused campaign grounded in issue-based advocacy and positivity about our plans for Adams County. I believe the greatest responsibility of a public official is to be a role model for ethical public conduct. Voters are tired of politicians who break promises and try to manipulate public opinion instead of telling the truth. At a time when our democracy is at a breaking point, it's our responsibility to commit to a more ethical politics that regains public trust and involves ordinary people in government decisionmaking.

Restoring Democracy

Between thoughtless funding cuts, pork barrel giveaways to his donors and friends, and straight-up bullying, Donald Trump has debased and dishonored our political traditions. But he is as much a symptom as he is a cause of our toxic politics. Our government will only work when ordinary citizens have the same opportunities to weigh in on policymaking as wealthy special interests. As a County Commissioner, I look forward to bringing my expertise as both a communications professional and social scientist toward making government more transparent and responsive to your needs. Here are a few of my ideas:<ul><li>Improving the county government website and better leveraging social media and other new technologies to improve public communication.</li><li>Prioritizing staffing and human workers over unproven technological fixes like A.I. and automation systems.</li><li>Improvements to the budget visualization programs on the county website that make them more user-friendly and readable.</li><li>Unequivocal support for our immigrant communities, whether it be better access to open space and law enforcement, better multilingual resources, or a robust defense of cultural events funding.</li><li>Supporting statewide ballot initiatives that make the wealthy pay their fair share, limit the power of special interests in politics, and make public officials more accountable to their voters instead of their donors.</li><li>Hold more regular townhalls throughout the county.</li><li>Update social services interfaces to better include non-traditional and LGBTQ+ families, as well as serve disabled residents.</li></ul>

As a communications professional, I look forward to making our county government more transparent and responsive to citizen feedback. Trust in local government is essential to dealing with our challenges, especially at a time when the Trump administration is spreading chaos and lies.
